Only one more week until I leave for BC! I've pretty much got all the clothes, shoes, etc that I need. Now I just need all the prayers I can possibly get. I've been approached by many who have said that I will be really fit and get a great tan this summer - of course I laugh along with their comment; of course it is difficult not to look forward to those things. But I really cannot lose focus; I need to remember why I am doing this: for the babies!
When I first applied to Crossroads, I was not happy to discover that some of my closest friends would also be doing it. One of the reasons being that a lot of people thought it was an excuse to spend the summer with each other. Furthermore, I liked the idea of doing something by myself - growing on my own. Finally, from what I heard from previous walkers, you can get pretty aggravated by the people around you. Makes sense. I mean, you're spending every single minute with these people. But despite all these things, I am glad I have my friends. And the closer I get to the day I leave, the more grateful I am to know I won't be alone this summer. The spiritual battle alone is not something I will be able to face by myself. And besides, a warrior could always use some extra support on the battle lines, right?
So far, I have received many generous donations - and even the several small ones have helped a lot. Of course, it's not nearly as much as one would obtain working a full-time summer job; but it is better than nothing and for that I am extremely grateful to all.
A few have asked when the walk actually begins. Here are the details for the next few weeks: I fly out with my fellow Ottawa walker friend May 14th at 8am. We're flying to Vancouver and then to Victoria where we will be staying at a friend's house for a few days. Then we have a two-day training session where we will be informed about the basic day-to-day overviews and proper conduct of the walk. Finally, on the weekend of the 19-20 we will be in the city of Vancouver - I believe we will be speaking at the Churches there and praying outside the abortion clinics.
So that's all I really have to say now. I will be updating this blog weekly (I hope). I will include pictures, stories, and much much more!
