This morning (Sunday) I had the opportunity to speak at a Church in Oliver which is about 45 minutes south of my host home which is in Summerland. While standing at the back of the Church with Steve, we were approached by a mother who wished to share a personal story with us. (Don't worry - she said it was okay to share).
This woman, "Rachel" began by saying that two years ago, a walker by the name of Jonathan (who I happened to meet at another Church this morning) encouraged her to take on a Pro-Life prayer which consisted of praying for one unborn child. In a way, she would be spiritually adopting this child. Only a few months after devoting herself to this daily prayer, did she discover that her son was possibly the father of an unborn child conceived by a "one-night-stand". The young girl who was with her son barely knew him and neither of them were ready to be parents.
However, this young man did all he could to help out this girl he barely knew; he even went to pre-natal classes. His entire family was very much involved in preparing for the welcoming of this new child who was supposedly his son. All the while, "Rachel" continued to pray for an unborn child whom she had spiritually adopted.
Two months after the baby was born, "Rachel" encouraged her son to take a paternity test just to be sure that this child was his. One month later the results turned out negative - so he was not the father, nor was "Rachel" the grandmother.
I watched this woman tear up as she described just how much time and effort she had devoted to this unborn child whom she did not even know. It was not until after the test that "Rachel" realized that all along, she had been praying for this one baby. This baby whose mother claimed that "Rachel's" son was the father, was considering an abortion. But after hearing of her pregnancy, he immediately convinced her to bring the child to term.
This story really touched me because it just goes to show that one simple, daily prayer could very well save the life of an unborn child!
